Individual
Therapy
Children
and adolescents requiring individual therapy are referred to the therapist for
service by the supervisors of Storey Homes. An individual treatment plan is developed
by the therapist with the child or adolescent and with input from appropriate
others involved in the care of the child or adolescent. Individual treatment sessions
focus on dealing with issues such as:
- Victimization
(physical, sexual and emotional abuse)
- Abandonment/rejection
- Exposure
to domestic violence
- Issues
related to neglect
- Issues
related to trauma
The
therapist makes referrals for specialist assessments when required. In addition
the therapist is available to the foster parents and other settings when appropriate
(e.g., school) for consultation and to assist with the development and monitoring
of behaviour management programs.
Children
and adolescents from Storey Homes generally attend individual therapy sessions
on a biweekly basis. The sessions generally involve three quarters of an hour
to an hour of therapy. Treatment goals are reviewed and revised regularly and
provided at the Plan of Care reviews.
